I love this idea to use the Save function to save your favorite accounts. I always dm them to myself and then they get lost somewhere in the list. I’m going to do this from now on.
I wonder if going back and looking at them every so often will teach the algorithm that these accounts are ones we want to see more of?
You'd think that would train the algorithm but who knows. I suppose that's another good reason to leave comments on the accounts you want to see more of too. Apparently just hovering slightly longer over a post trains the algorithm to show you more of the same, even if your don't hit like or do anything else, which is why we end up seeing so much irrelevant stuff, because often the first second of a reel will catch our eye and it won't be immediately obvious that it's about something we're really not interested in.
I’m so glad you are enjoying IG more and had a successful first month! I love your feed—so cohesive and just gorgeous💕 I hope great opportunities will open up for you very soon! I might try to make a banner too.
I'm all for abandoning dead horses. In fact, even semi-living ones. I figure I'll leave them to other people with the time, inclination, and enthusiasm to invest in the resuscitation.
But only metaphorically! In case my rather horrifying use of metaphor threw you: I was talking about leaving Instagram completely myself. 😬
But it is good to hear what you are doing to keep the your new horse alive - I'll be sending people to this post when they talk about how miserable they are with Instagram but don't want to leave it completely.
😄 I fear the new account will probably go the way of the old one eventually. Already my shiny new, exciting feed is becoming cluttered with insta rubbish. And I’m already struggling to stay on top of the posting schedule. But when I have time for it I do actually enjoy it. Is the pressure to post certain things, certain amounts and reach certain numbers that ruins it.
So sad! It's a bit like walking a tightrope (or maybe something a little less life-threatening) - finding the balance between treating social media as a necessary evil for your business and actually enjoying the fun, social, and inspiring aspect of it. That's why I gave up really - I kept falling off on the "evil" side, getting lost, and never finding the fun side. And all those "rules" certainly didn't help.
Wow! That was a lot of work for you. I am glad it has got some traction for your new Insta account. I haven't used Instagram for a couple of years either. Mostly that was due to family stuff and a lack of time. But I don't really want to go back to it. However I will need to make the effort at some point. Ugh! I like your tip about the save function though. That is definitely worth remembering.
I remember your post earlier this year well Dani, so interesting that you’ve found a way to circumvent your issues with Instagram. Hope it continues to play in your favour. The whole issue of reach and engagement is an interesting one. I have really lost my creative mojo in recent months and as such haven’t been able to post anything new to Substack. As a result, my rhymes are lost in the Substack ether, with no new likes and no new followers which - in turn - feeds the dejection and the creative famine that I’m experiencing. In situations like this it’s difficult to navigate a path back. M
Great insight, thanks for sharing. I did the same thing after forgetting my login details for my old Instagram account so now find myself building a new, and I’m actually enjoying it much more this time (for now 😂😅)

Thank you so much. I wish the same for you!

Yes, I’d be happy if I didn’t have to use it at all but that’s not realistic.

I think you need to put the likes etc aside for a while and find a way to create just for you. The rest can come back later.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work x
